About Adhura
Synopsis
When we claim to be inspired by personalities from mythology and history, do they only expand our world or also limit them? Why do perspectives passed on by our ancestors also burden us?
Making his way from a village to the city, Sanket grew up listening to stories of Bhagat Singh and Karna. Their stories of resilience, perseverance, and sacrifice hold him in good stead until he is faced with his own dilemmas. In times of despair, who influences our decisions? How much freedom do we actually have when we make a choice?
Our play, 'Adhura' is an attempt to understand the shifts that happen in a person's place in the world, his thoughts and choices.
Journey of the play
The play took birth with Suranjay Patil’s participation at Our Theatre Collective’s ‘Build Your Score’ theatre making workshop, facilitated by Vivek Vijayakumaran in May 2019. The workshop culminated with a dramatized reading of a 10 min text.

Director's Note
Adhura is a deeply personal story which asks for an intimate setting to be told. The protagonist, while sharing his story in first person, also draws upon narratives of Bhagat Singh and Karna. It's through the collision of these images and stories on a bare stage with enough measure of silence that questions on privilege, love, freedom, power and choice are raised.
Adhura continues to tour across the country

Testimonials
Adhura is a mirror reflecting the parts in us that remain unmet due to societal conditioning. And witnessing that part in me during the play fueled the search for completeness in me. Watch, Witness, Awaken! ~ Girija, Wellness Facilitator
For anyone who has been through or going through the competitive pointy end of the secondary education and professional degree system, and then the nonsensical corporate grind, “Adhura” is very relatable. And I highly recommend you to experience this play. It well may awaken dormant empathy within, for anyone you see currently toiling through either of the above systems. Including for yourself first. - Madhavi K., core team member, Disom The Leadership School (Disom Foundation)
The Greeks called the theatre 'the seeing place', where one could see the mirror of who they are, and what the contemporary society is. Adhura stands true to this definition of theatre: a seemingly no-frills monologue has layers and layers of discoveries to uncover, if one engages with it. The production and delivery stay faithful to the intent of the script, in a manner that leaves you wondering, disturbed, and hopeful all at the same time. -Rukmini Iyer, Director, Exult! Solutions
In October 2022 , Our theatre group from Bangalore staged their one act play, Adhoora, at NIT Hamirpur. When I came to know that it’s also mono acting type play, I was a bit apprehensive because to keep the attention of audience for around an hour by a single artist is a daunting challenge. However, it was a great experience to watch Mr Vivek’s performance. He kept the audience spellbound for the entire duration. His acting was simply amazing. The script of the play is excellent and developed very diligently with each word and sequence chosen properly and related the present with the past. It raised many relevant questions in the minds of spectators for consideration. It was surely an experience to be remembered for a very long time - Dr Anoop Kumar, Professor and Dean, NIT Hamirpur
