Exploring Navarasas

About the workshop

The workshop is designed to help the performer find their own triggers and mechanisms to be able to access these primary emotions (Navarasas) and eventually play with them. Although the methods employed in the workshop will have no direct elements from any performance form — It will work with certain physical pointers which are derived from the Navarasas practice in Kutiyattam.

The workshop will work towards helping each participant arrive at their own physical score with a possibility to shift/change it with time and practice. This is because an actor’s instrument needs to constantly be in transition and not static. It’s most suited for people with some prior performance experience and is intense with a total of 40 working hours.
Purpose: To facilitate a process for modern (urban) actors to explore the Navarasas without having to embrace a traditional/classical form.

Duration: 10 days
